About ALBIREO
Thank you for visiting our Website!
> Firstly, you may be wondering how Albireo is pronounced.
There are several ways to say it, but we prefer "al-bih-RAY-oh" since we are located in California and the Latin-influenced form seems proper.
> And what is Albireo?
Albireo is a visual binary star in the constellation of Cygnus. More specifically, it is the base star of the bright asterism known as the Northern Cross. It is positioned about halfway between the prominent stars Vega and Altair. You can find it on star charts by the designation Beta Cygni, which is printed as β Cygni.
> What is special about Albireo?
When viewed using even a small telescope, Albireo has strikingly beautiful and contrasting colors. The brighter star is orange-yellow and the companion star is brilliant blue. It is truly one of the most beautiful star systems visible from Earth.
> Why did the partners of Albireo Vineyards choose to use its name and likeness for their trademark and icon?
Because both of them had careers in astronomy and space science, which in fact is how they met. At an observatory, of course. Albireo became a fitting symbol of their relationship and subsequently their partnership. As is said, "The rest is in the stars."
